AW17 is almost here and I cannot wait! Although a new season is always a chance to update my wardrobe, there’s truly no turn of season I love more than Summer to Autumn, give me tights, knits, new coats and boots, HEAVENLY!
So when Golden Square in Warrington asked me along to shop up a storm and find key pieces for my AW17 capsule wardrobe, I jumped at the chance knowing exactly what my closet needed.
I’m forever scrolling through Pinterest, planning outfits, especially for the season ahead. This year there were 4 things I knew my capsule wardrobe needed.
AW17 – Statement Sleeves
As the owner of big boobs, most statement tops are not really my cup of tea, however statement sleeves I can most definitely do, so as I saw more and more of them cropping up on the high street, I knew I wanted to add one to my capsule wardrobe.
Golden Square has every high street store you could need, from New Look to H&M, Primark to River Island, where I found this incredible flamenco style knit, which looks awesome with distressed denim, wide leg trousers and pencil skirts.
There’s a lot out there about how you ‘should’ wear statement sleeves and details in general depending on your body type, well that’s rubbish, find something you like and feel awesome in and wear it, regardless of what glossy magazines say!
Although I don’t usually go for a boxy shape for knits, but when it comes to over the top statement details, the looser the shape the more modern the look.
AW17 – Wide Leg Trousers
Nothing screams chic to me quite like a pair of wide leg trousers, the best style has a cinched in waist and slight pleating to the front to ensure they slide over the hips to give the most flattering silhouette.
Whilst I would love to rock a blush or white pair, let’s face it British weather doesn’t give us much cause of those kinds of colours and if you’ve ever met me, or seen me, you’ll know I’m an avid wearer of black. So when I slipped these Evans wide leg trousers on with a tucked in t-shirt it was love at first wear, they skim my hips, pull in my waist and elongate my somewhat short legs!
The look fantastic dressed up with a pointed toe stiletto and a body, and just as good with a jersey t-shirt and white converse. They are the most flexible trousers I own and make a pleasant change to my usual uniform of jeans!
AW17 – Distressed Demin
Find me a person who doesn’t love a bit of distressed denim, and I will find you a fibber! There is something effortlessly perfect about distressed denim, it tones down a dressed up look, and adds an edge to a casual one with the addition of heels and a slip of red lipstick. In fact every wardrobe deserves a dose of denim.
I have heaps of pairs of ripped jeans but no denim skirt in my wardrobe and having seem them EVERYWHERE paired with over sized knits and converse as well as t-shirts, tights and boots, I felt it was only right to add one to my capsule wardrobe.
Finding the right one though is a massive struggle, then New Look saved the day, the rips are in the right places, it’s high waisted so hugs my curves and is long enough not to ride up over my arse. It’s perfect, looks awesome with my statement sleeves jumper and metallic flats as well which makes it even more versatile.
AW17 – Monochrome Stripes
Whilst I am all for a pop of colour, the entire point of a capsule wardrobe is to have a collection of items that work in harmony, that are fantastic alone, and even better paired together. If you’re the kind of person who thrives in colour then maybe your wardrobe works well with lots of brights, mine works best with monochrome and neutral shades. Which is why the final new addition to my wardrobe had to be a monochrome shirt and whilst I would love to get my hands on a silk one, I was seriously impressed by this one from Primark.
Although not silk, the material is light and hangs perfectly, there are great details like the neck tie and contrasting cuffs and more than that it fits like a dream. It’s fantastic tucked into my wide leg trousers with a plain white trainer and leather jacket and for something a little more structured it looks really great paired with my jersey pencil skirt and heels.
If you’re thinking of adding to your wardrobe for next season there’s no better time to head to Golden Square than Saturday 9th & Sunday 1oth September, from 11am – 4pm, for their Lookbook Live event, where they are celebrating the new fashion season with style with a spectacular event with stylists in store showcasing the best of the AW17 trends from the stores in the mall. You’ll also have a chance to win a £50 gift card!
I’m sure you don’t need an excuse to shop, but if you did, theres’s a couple of great ones for you!
Huge thank you to Golden Square for helping me find my perfect AW17 pieces, I’ll be back next season for sure!
