Lisa Potter-Dixon is a breath of fresh air in the world of makeup on Instagram, not a cut crease in sight, no retouching and most of all no bull shit. She is funny, talented and a joy to follow! So when she revealed her new book The Make-Up Manual was available for pre-order I practically broke the internet rushing to order it. Expecting it to arrive in April, I was more than a little giddy to find it appeared the next day, waiting for me at my local book store!
It’s GORGEOUS! Not your usual makeup book, rather than clinical and over complicated, it is bright and inspiring, just like Lisa!
The book is split into 7 main sections, based on the part of the face, and including skin care, which makes for a fantastic start to the book. Not to mention the fact that at the back of the book is a list of EVERYTHING that has been used on the faces in the makeup looks, which is a really fantastic touch if like me you like to nerd up on new/cult products.
Despite being Head Makeup Artist & National Brow artist for Benefit, the book is really varied in terms of the products used, from high street to high end and everything in between.
It’s so refreshing to see such a variety of faces in a makeup book, not just model looks but real women. All ages and skin types, and a guide to help you work out exactly what your skin needs and how to best apply make up, as well as the best products to use.
From shop bought skincare to home made face masks, ageing and pregnancy, Lisa covers it all in the first few pages of The Make-Up Manual, so you know you’re getting off to a great start! It must be so lovely for Lisa to be able to share her 12 years of experience and knowledge with people. In her opening piece in the book she talks about the power makeup can have and that although you don’t have to be a makeup artist to be good at it, she hopes her tips will help readers feel confident and beautiful, which is just lovely!
The step-by-step guides are beautifully photographed and range from dewy foundations to all out glitter and glam! Regardless of your current makeup skills you’ll find something for you. I like to think I am pretty savvy with my skills, but there are some areas I suck at, and they are covered in The Make-Up Manual
Huge congratulations to Lisa, this book is a triumph! You can pre-order The Make-Up Manual online right now!
Be sure to go give her a follow on Instagram!
