When it comes to new products I have to hold myself back from raiding the shelves of every Boots I come across. However there are some items that I simply cannot resist. These are a few of my most recent favourites that are new in my makeup bag.
I spend far too much of my life on what seems to be a never-ending search for the ‘perfect’ foundation, along with the perfect jeans, black dress and man! With that in mind I try to limit the amount of high-end foundations I try as let’s face it, they ain’t cheap!
However, I couldn’t read a blog, scroll through Instagram or read a magazine without seeing people raving about the new Chanel Les Beiges. Most of all thought it was the seal of approval from my imaginary BFF and all round blogging hero Caroline Hirons going bold and naming it her ‘Foundation of the Year’ a mere five days into 2016. So the day it landed in store I was in there quick sharp to have a peek.
Although I am a foundation fiend, when it comes to primers I am most certainly on the fence. It’s not that I don’t think they work, it’s that one hasn’t blown me away and made me never wish to be without it.
Then by chance I was mooching in Boots and ended up at the Smashbox counter and got chatting to the font of knowledge Sally who entirely wowed me with her passion and knowledge and after really quizzing me about my skin and makeup routine suggested their Photo Finish Light primer.
This version of the world-famous Photo Finish primer is oil-free, 60% water based and is ideal for oily, acne-prone or sensitive skin. Tick, Tick, Tick!
The formula is silky and blends beautifully into the skin and subtly yet successfully smooths and evens my skin tone. The vitamins and antioxidants within help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores for visibly softer skin and can be worn alone or under foundation to increase its longevity.
The revolutionary formula has oil absorbers for a smooth matte finish all day, light diffusers to minimise the appearance of imperfections, and vitamin C and peptides to help even skin tone and promote collagen production for a flawless future.
Like with foundation, I have tried more concealers than I care to admit. So when I was returning another item to Estée Lauder, I noticed the old favourite Double Wear Concealer had a new contemporary, Flawless Wear, it was the fastest purchase I have ever made.
Whilst I did love the original formula, it sat a little heavy on drier parts of my skin, so on the promise this wouldn’t I had high hopes. It’s described as…
- Looks flawless. Lasts 15-hours. Feels comfortable, never dry. Stays seamless, without creasing. Luminous finish
- Lightweight crème formula creates the perfected look of flawless skin all day
- Infused with minerals and emollients to condition skin and make blending easy
- Transfer-resistant, colour-true formula provides medium build-able coverage that won’t slip, slide or melt away
- Oil-free, Fragrance-free. Water, perspiration and humidity-resistant
- Dermatologist & Ophthalmologist-tested, spf 10
Now, if all of that doesn’t hook you in, then I don’t know what would!
I’ve been using it for 3 weeks now and I love it so much I have already bought a back up just in case it gets discontinued! At £22 it is most certainly not cheap, but it will take a lot to sway me away from this, A LOT. It comes in 8 shades and I highly recommend swatching in daylight as they vary quite dramatically.
I have the straightest eyelashes ever, they don’t hold a curl and as an incessant eye rubber more mascara ends up around my eyes like a panda than stays on my eye lashes!
Then Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup changed my life and wrote a post years ago about the benefits of waterproof mascara and with the improvements in waterproof eye makeup remover, I have finally found the joy of curled lashes and no panda face.
I’ve tried a lot of waterproof mascaras but my ah-ha moment came in the form of Lancôme
Hypnôse Waterproof. LIFE CHANGER.
It contains SoftSculpt™, a new system of soft, emollient waxes that are combined with the PC/PA polymer system to produce up to six times the lash volume without clumping.
The supple texture of the mascara turns into an ultra-light fluid enabling you to build lashes, over and over, without smearing, smudging or clumping.
Most mascaras are over hyped, with adverts that outright lie. This one however is a game changer.
The best £23.50 you’ll ever spend on mascara.
Last up in that’s new in my makeup bag is the prettiest of all the products, this Charlotte Tilbury lip gloss. Since Charlotte’s range hit the shops I have had to restrain myself from buying ALL THE THINGS, however as a Pillow Talk Lip Cheat pencil obsessive, Rania the manager in Leeds Harvey Nics convinced me I needed this gloss in Seduction.
She was spot on, it’s the perfect blend of peach nudes, it has enough gloss to plump up the lips but without the sticky feeling. The colour lasts really well and although fades, it does so evenly and very naturally.
So there you have it, the first post on this blog since the change over. I’d love to know what you think, so by all means let me know in the comments. The change over has been a labor of love, and I am very proud and really hope you love it as much as I do.
