Northern Bloc, ice cream but not as you know it! No fancy flashy names, no gimmicks, no additives, just fucking GORGEOUS natural flavours that have transformed me from an ice cream sceptic to a fully fledged scoffer of the cold stuff!
I first tried Northen Bloc at one of the many foodie events I was lucky enough to be invited to, so when the Ice Cream Team got in touch and asked me to join in with their #CreatedWithBloc campaign I jumped at the chance…the deal? Get creative with some of the newest foodie trends, so off to Pinterest I headed to get some icey inspo, and I settled on ice cream donut sandwiches!
Seriously how incredible do they look? Now I know full well I will never, ever be able to recreate Pinterest worthy images, but as long as they taste good, I’m in!
One Saturday morning a handsome chap from Northern Bloc turned up on my door step and presented me with ice cream swag galore, not just mini pots of goodness but big ones too, and ice cream scoops and toppings to help me get creative.
First up lets talk about these mini tubs of ice cream, could they be more perfect, ideal for a non sharer like me. All of the flavours come in both big and little sizes, happy days!
The Ice Cream Donut Sandwiches are easy peasy to make but look awesome! You need;
- Ice Cream *obviously*
- Donuts – my preference is glazed hole donuts, keep it classic
- Toppings that work well with your ice cream filling
First up was the Raspberry & Sorrel Ice Cream, if like me you weren’t sure what Sorrel was, I can tell you it’s a herb with sour hint to it which works really beautifully with the sweetness of the raspberry.
All you need to do is stack the ingredients together…
- Slice the donut through the middle
- Scoop the ice cream onto the bottom slice of donut
- Add your toppings
- Add the donut lid
Seriously, if you can’t do that, I’m not sure there is any hope for you! I have stuck with a natural vibe in keeping with the natural credentials of Northern Bloc, but of course you could go wild with sprinkles, glitter and anything else you can think of!
But want to know what’s better than one Ice Cream Donut Sandwich? THREE OF THEM!
So as well as the Raspberry & Sorrel, I’ve gone for Hazelnut & Tonka Bean Ice Cream with chopped hazelnuts for added crunch, and Chocolate & Sea Salt Ice Cream topped with extra sea salt and walnuts!
Seriously, how awesome do they look! Perfect pudding that take less than 5 minutes to construct, winner!
If you fancy starting your day with ice cream rather than ending it, how about breakfast ice cream?
Again, super simple, easy to make, but the perfect way to put a smile on someones *or your own* face first thing in the morning! You’ll need…
- Waffles – totally make these yourself if you have a waffle iron, if not bought ones are just fine!
- Ice Cream of your choice – I went for Strawberry & Black Pepper and White Chocolate and Merginue!
- Strawberry juice – pulsed and strained strawberries
- Frozen fruit to top!
Just as with the waffles, all you need to do is stack the ingredients together!
By all means thank me in the comments of this post when you have gone and made these beauties at home! You’ll love them I promise!
But if in doubt, if waffles and donuts are too much hassle, then how about just a big old bowl of Ginger Caramel ice cream topped with chopped nuts and white chocolate.
I would LOVE to know how you eat your ice cream? Have you got any fun recipes, leave them in the comments below and I will totally give them a try!
