There are some things I really miss about my teenage years, high up on that list was whiling a day away in the local bowling alley, playing air hockey, eating hot dogs and flirting with boys. Wanna know something awesome…there is now a grown ups bowling alley right in the heart of Leeds, Roxy Lanes. Nestled down the side of a Tesco Express just a hop skip and a jump from Leeds Trinity, the side entrance makes it seem especially trendy and once inside I was not disappointed.
I am not the cool kind, but I felt instantly semi-cool just stepping foot into the graffitied walled bar, neon lights hung from ceiling and in place of the usual exposed brick walls were chipboard panels. It’s the kind of interior that just screams ‘undone’. All the fun of my teenage years, but now with disposable income and gin!
Roxy Lanes is not the first of it’s kind in Leeds, in fact it’s sister bar Roxy Ballroom opened earlier this year offering up all out fun times, cocktails, great burgers and cocktails not to mention beer pong and pool. Both bars offer the disconcerting party people of Leeds something a little different, a step away from the norm of standing leaning against a bar or fighting to be heard over the dance music.
The list of cocktails was so extensive I genuinely struggled to choose, thankfully I made a good pick in the form of the ‘Rugged Hustler’, Bourbon, elderflower, Southern Comfort and lemon, just writing about it is making me want another one! The other thing I love about the cocktail menu, the sharing jugs and the ace offers, which make a few cheeky after work drinks that much more affordable!
Instead Roxy Lanes is a chilled oasis, serving up delicious cocktails, yummy snacks and mouthwatering pizzas, then once you are full of carbs and a little unsteady on your feet you can pop on your ever glamorous bowling shoes and head over to knock down some pins. I would have loved to have got some snaps of our teams attempts at bowling but we were having way too much fun to stop!
The pizzas were exactly how I think pizzas should be, loaded with toppings, served on american style pizza trays, no airs and graces. Mine was laden with sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella and pulled spiced chicken, thank goodness for the cocktails or my mouth would have been on fire! The lads and Amy went for other especially tasty looking pizzas, with meatballs and pepperoni. Goodness me how I adore carbs!
I’m a big fan of impromptu nights out, with a group of mates, and I think Roxy Lanes is perfect for that. Chilled out, inexpensive and something just a little unusual, maybe in fact the perfect date spot. I will most certainly be heading back, asap! In fact it’s a friends birthday in a few weeks and I can’t think of any better way to celebrate than with cocktails and bowling, bringing back memories!
