I don’t know if you have noticed, but the weather recently has been a little loco? I mean from 28 degrees one minute to torrential rain the next. It can be a minefield trying to work out what to wear to work when you don’t want to roast, but most certainly don’t want to be flashing during a board meeting!
Over the weekend one of my friends, Claire, sent me a link to a crappy post on the Daily Mail where broadcaster and journalist Rachel Johnson embarked on somewhat of a tongue-in-cheek challenge, to embrace some of the less pleasant summer trends that have been spotted in the city.
I was a little upset by it to be honest, I can say hand on heart that I have never spotted any professional woman in any of the outfits she was rocking! Having thought the exact same, Claire begged me to do a post on suitably simple summer styles to wear confidently in the office.
Just after chatting with Claire, I spooted this beautiful, simple, chic striped summer dress in Dorothy Perkins, in the sale. It’s incredibly light weight, with a perfectly fitting bodice that benefits massively from adjustable straps, a must have in my eyes when it comes to work wear. Although I am lucky enough to be my own boss, and not have to wear a uniform, I do spend my time meeting with potential and current clients, that means that although I don’t need a turtle neck, a little modesty is wise!
Although the dress is fitted at the waist, and flows out into a delicate flared skirt, I always think a contrast belt smartens the look up and this one was a bargain buy 20 mg ambien from Primark. I love this dress with nude wedges or bright flats, they also look fabulous with white pumps.
I’ve recently had my very long hair chopped into more of a mid length layered style, the ends of which fall just below my collar bones, the perfect length for summer in my eyes. Short enough not to feel like I am wearing an extra layer, but as you can see from the snap below, long enough to whip up into a casual high bun.
The dress is great for warm days, however when weather is as temperamental as it currently is having a little sleeved cover-up. I cannot tell you what a find this Primark denim shirt is, I mean I seriously wear this all the time, so much so I am thinking of doing a whole post sharing my love for it.
It turns this cute dress into a completely different outfit, and cinching my waist in with the belt gives it all the structure I need whilst not feeling restrictive. Teamed with my wedges, hoop earrings and my favourite fushia lipstick I am good to go!
If you can’t get your mitts on this particular dress, I have found these beauties for you, all available online too, so with the wonder of next day delivery you could be rocking this look by the end of the week!
So there you have it, my little foray into summer office wear styling. I love this look, and I will be wearing it for my client meetings and press events on Thursday.
